Johnny Ewell Smith, 77, of Strawberry died June 19, 2003, at White River Medical Center in Batesville.
Born Nov. 3, 1925, at Jesup, he was the son of Frank and Rachel Smith. He was a World War II veteran and of the Baptist belief.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Bonnie Garrett Smith; six sons and daughters-in-law -- Ricky and Cynthia Smith of Cave City; David and Pam Smith of Lenexa, Kan.; Alan and Shirl Smith of Jesup; Gary and Pat Smith of Bakersfield, Calif.; Kenny and Kellie Smith of Batesville; Darrel and Linda Smith of Jesup; two daughters and a son-in-law -- Karen Harris of Walnut Ridge, and Karla and Michael Wilson of Cave City; 19 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Paul Smith of Powhatan; and a brother-in-law, Alvis Stephenson of Smithville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; three sisters; a grandson, Jonathan Smith; and a granddaughter, Keisha Harris.
The funeral was June 22 at Mount Harmony Free Will Baptist Church in Saffell with the Rev. John Freeman and the Rev. Stanley Vandergriff officiating. Burial followed in Lancaster Cemetery at Strawberry. Arrangements were by Qualls Funeral Home.
Grandsons were Pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Bobby Howard, Murphy Will-muth, Marvin Kirby and F.K. Willmuth.
