John Thomas Stroud, 78, of Melbourne died June 29, 2004, in Batesville.
Born May 18, 1926, in Knob Creek, he was son of Levi Stroud and Nellie Byler Stroud.
During his working years, he worked in Washington and was also a carpenter.
Stroud was a World War II veteran serving in the Philippines. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law -- Delories and John Brown of Sage, Marlene and Arnnie Hutchins of Lacrosse, and Darlene and Larry Sartin of Melbourne; a brother, Junior Stroud of Melbourne; seven grandchildren -- Chris Brown, Chad Brown, Stacey Herron, Amber Bromley, Jessie Hutchins, Brandy Stigall and Dennis Sartin; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Connie Stroud Townsend; and a sister, Hazel Newland Cantrell.
The funeral was July 2 at Roman and Billy Howard Memorial Chapel with Doyne Robertson officiating. Burial was at Combs Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home in Melbourne.
Pallbearers were grandsons and grandsons-in-law -- Chris Brown, Chad Brown, Dennis Sartin, Jessie Hutchins, Jason Stigall and Chris Layne.
