The Rev. Kelsey Norman Clear, 72, a pastor in The Dalles, Ore., for 39 years, died May 24, 2003, at the local hospital of a sudden illness.
Born Oct. 26, 1930, in Evening Shade, he was the oldest of three children born to Clifford and Leila Ann Watson Clear. He grew up in Myron and graduated from Violet Hill High School. After high school, he served in the U.S. Army from 1949 to 1953, and then returned to Arkansas.
In 1954, he moved to California where he met and later married Peggy Marlene Donaldson Aug. 24, 1956, in Santa Monica. He entered Bible College and completed his studies in 1963.
In 1965, Norman and family moved to The Dalles with the Christian Evangelical Assem-blies and started Covenant Christian Community Church.
He enjoyed his church and helping the community members, his family, the computer and flying his own plane.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy; his twin children and their spouses -- David and Bobbi Clear and Diane and Brett Hartley, all of The Dalles; five grandchildren -- Elizabeth, Seth, Andrew, Annessa and Kaylie; and his sister, Raye Stewart of Ash Flat.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Hale Clear.
A memorial service was May 29 at Covenant Christian Community Church. A private burial was at Parklawn Cemetery.
