Lila F. Kallestad, 94, of Cherokee Village died Feb. 1, 2003, at her residence.
Born March 24, 1908, in Osceola County, Iowa, she was the daughter of Alfred Mayer and Fannie Jackson Mayer. She worked as a teacher in Strong Lake, Iowa, for 10 years.
She married Mat J. Kallestad July 30, 1940, in Nashville, Iowa. They purchased a vacation home in Cherokee Village in 1963, and moved there permanently in 1983 from Marshalltown, Iowa. She belonged to the Women's Christian Fellowship and was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Cherokee Village.
Survivors include her husband; a son and his wife, -- Paul and Elizabeth Kallestad of St. Louis; and three granddaughters -- Kristi, Katie and Kendra.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial service was Feb. 8 at Peace Lutheran Church in Cherokee Village with Brian Pummill officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery in Marshalltown at a later date.
Local arrangements were under the direction of Tri-County's Cherokee Chapel of Highland.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Peace Lutheran Church Building Fund.
