Lilbern Irene Nix, 85, of Ash Flat died Nov. 7, 2005, at St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro. She was a lifelong Christian and member of the Ash Flat Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher and church secretary. Nix's family settled the area in 1821.

She was born in Ash Flat on Jan. 28, 1920. There she graduated from high school and worked as a postal clerk, a homemaker and a land developer. She also worked with her husband, Orvis Earl Nix, on their farm for the 42 years of their marriage.

She lived her life as a servant of God by always giving to her family and friends. By example she earned the love and respect of everyone she knew and helped.

Survivors include two daughters, Louise Swink of Ash Flat, and Kay (Mrs Dennis) Palmer of Mammoth Spring; four grandchildren, Tamala Ary, Brien Nix Hall, Christopher Hall and Danny Poteete; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lillie Griffith Farris and Walter and Othel Orr Farris; her brother, Vurdell Farris; her husband; and two sons, Tommy Earl Nix and an infant.

The funeral service was held Nov. 10 at the Ash Flat Baptist Church with Jack Richardson and Johnny Carter officiating. Burial was in the Wiles Cemetery at Ash Flat with arrangements under the direction of Tri-County's Cherokee Chapel of Highland.

Pallbearers were Ted Farris, Mike Nix, David Jennings, Joe Cotham, Ray Martin and Marty Goodwin.
