Laverne Joseph Lau, 89, of Cherokee Village died July 8, 2003, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Hot Springs.
Born Aug. 11, 1913, in Harvey, Ill., he was the son of Emil Otto Lau and Theresa Cuddigan Lau. He married Marion Gibson Oct. 7, 1939, in Harvey. He retired after 45 years as a machinist for Wyman-Gordon Company in Harvey. Mr. and Mrs. Lau moved to Cherokee Village 25 years ago. He was a member of Cherokee Village Men's Golf Association, Knights of Columbus and St. Michael's Catholic Church in Cherokee Village.
Survivors include his wife, Marion Lau of the home; a son and his wife -- John and Sara Lau of Olive Branch, Miss.; three daughters and two sons-in-law -- Janet and Thomas Liszka of Hot Springs Village, Marilynn and William Swan-son of Raleigh, N.C., and Nancy Hudson of Chicago; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers -- Earl and Edwin Lau.
A funeral mass was July 12 at St. Michael's Catholic Church with Father Kevin Atunzu officiating. Burial will be at a later date.
Arrangements were under the direction of Tri-County's Cherokee Chapel of Highland.
