Lela Marie Behrens, 97, of Ash Flat died Nov. 28, 2006, at the Ash Flat Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
Behrens was born March 1, 1909, in Carlinville, Ill., the daughter of the late Clarence. and Rosella Young Bryant. She attended local schools and graduated from Carlinville High School in 1926.
She married William P. "Bill" Behrens on Feb. 28, 1930, in Carlinville. She worked for Candy Land Cafe' and Ice Cream Parlor in Clinton, Iowa, before joining Montgomery Ward where she worked as a sales associate for a number of years before retiring in 1962. Behrens was a 50-year-member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School. She was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star Lodge 65 and founder of the Queen of Clubs card club.
She is survived by one son, Garrett L. Behens of Cherokee Village; one daughter, Connie L. Mosher of Cherokee Village; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Charles and Elmer; and her husband of 71 years, Bill.
Funeral services were held Dec. 4 at the Snell-Zornig Funeral Home in Clinton, Iowa, with burial in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery in Clinton. The funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Tri-County Funeral Home of Hardy.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be considered to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or the Order of the Eastern Star Lodge 65.
