Monterie "Monty" Anderson, 78, of Cave City died Sept. 14, 2003, at White River Medical Center in Batesville.
Born Sept 1, 1925, at Cave City, she was the daughter of Marcus and Euna Kent Matheny. She was retired from White Rodgers, bowled for 34 years in local, state and national levels, was inducted into the Batesville Women's Bowling Hall of Fame in 1983 and was a member of Maxville Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law -- Bill and Gayle Anderson of Cave City; a brother, Mack Matheny of Ravenden; six grandchildren -- Keith Anderson of Batesville, Scott Anderson of Fort Smith, Tina Anderson of Heber Springs, Ashley Anderson of Cave City, Todd Coles of Bethesda, and Jill Varner of Bakersville, Calif., seven great-grandchildren -- Paige Anderson of Batesville, Austin Anderson and Audra Anderson, both of Fort Smith, Brandon Sumner of Dallas, Sarah Varner of Bakersville, Calif., Ryan Coles of Bethesda and Casey Coles of Charlotte; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Garndell Anderson, and by a sister, Juanita Smith.
The funeral was Sept. 17 at Maxville Missionary Baptist Church north of Cave City with Grayden Milligan officiating. Burial followed in Maxville Cemetery with arrangements by Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.
Pallbearers were Terry St. John, Jerry Matheny, Terry Matheny, Doug Matheny, Keith Anderson and Scott Anderson.
Honorary pallbearers were Robert Earl Anderson, Dwayne Mobley, Todd Coles, Dr. Tom Cummings, Dr. Z.T. Beyga, Butch Crafton and O.J. Laman.
