Martelle Hulett Bristow, 83, of Evening Shade, Ark., died March 30, 2008, at Batesville. She was born Feb. 25, 1925, in Center, Ark, the daughter of the late Mart and Fanny Hulett. She graduated from Ash Flat High School in 1943, and attended Harding College for a short time during World War II. She worked for Boeing Aircraft in Seattle, Wash.
W.H. Hulett, her grandfather, was instrumental in the growth of the Churches of Christ in Sharp County during the late 1800s and was listed as one of the early preachers in the publication of "Arkansas Angels." She attended the Church of Christ her entire life.Survivors include: her husband, Gordon Bristow; two sons, Rodney Bristow of Salina, Okla., and James Bristow of Evening Shade; three daughters, Pam Stevens of Searcy, Vicki Gallo of Evening Shade and Monica Miller of Ft. Worth, Texas; nine grandchildren, Rod Bristow Jr. of Salina, Okla., Marti Read, Jennifer Read Fraser, Amy Read Leach all of Tulsa, Okla., Justin Gallo of Allen, Texas, David Gallo of Houston, Texas, Matt Miller of Nashville, Tenn., Mark Miller of Atlanta, Ga., and Maci Miller Wilson of Waco, Texas; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Georgia Jarrett of Poughkeepsie, Maudie Brown of Wenatchee, Wash., and Madeline Negri of St. Charles, Mo.; and numerous nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by: her parents; a sister, Hattie Ruth Byrd; and a brother, M.L. Hulett.Funeral services were held April 1 at the Cave City Church of Christ in Cave City, Ark., with grandsons, Mark Miller and David Gallo officiating. Burial followed in the Evening Shade Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.Pallbearers were Rod Bristow Jr., Matt Miller, Justin Gallo, Mark Miller, David Gallo and Luke Wilson.Honorary pallbearers were Marti Read, Jennifer Fraser, Amy Leach and Maci Wilson.Memorials may be made to Paragould Children's Home, 5515 Old Walcott Road, Paragould, AR 72450.
