C. Mildred Lessenden Atkinson Johnston, 100, of Topeka, Kan., died May 29, 2003, at Topeka Presbyterian Manor.

Born Oct. 3, 1902, at Osawatomie, Kan., she was the daughter of Laura Updegraf Lessenden and Clarence Stephen Lessenden. She graduated from Cheney High School and attended Wichita Business College. She married Louis R. Atkinson in 1924. She lived and worked in Wichita at the Gas Service Company and in CPA offices. He worked at the Wichita Beacon and Eagle. They moved to Topeka in 1956. He worked for the Topeka Capital-Journal. They retired in 1965 and moved to Cherokee Village. He died in 1967. She married E.O. Johnston in 1969. They moved to John Knox Village in Lee's Summit, Mo. He died in 1989. She was an avid golfer and had her first hole-in-one at age 86. She was member of First Presbyterian Church of Topeka.

Survivors include two daughters -- Joan Atkinson Knoll of Topeka, and Jane Johnston George of Pinehurst, N.C.; five grandsons -- Richard Knoll and Steven Knoll of Topeka, David Knoll of Centerville, Ohio, Dan George of Rockville, Conn., and David George of Rochester Hills, Mich.; and 10 great-grandchildren.

The body was cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
