Mildred Nelson, 86, a resident of North Arkansas Life Care Center since 1992, died June 3, 2003, at White River Medical Center in Batesville.
Born Dec. 2, 1916, on a farm near Burlington, N.D., she was the daughter of William and Hulda Marshall. She attended a country school through the eighth grade and graduated from Burlington High School in 1934. She attended French's Business College in Minot, N.D., and worked many years for Ward County Independent, a weekly newspaper publishing company.
In 1945 she married Edward Boyles and lived in Seattle. They later returned to Minot where they ran a grocery store. She later worked at a motor service in Minot. In 1954 she was employed as office manager at Washington Scientific in Minneapolis.
She married Elvin Nelson and in 1972 they moved to Horseshoe Bend, where she worked until 1973. She was a member of Horseshoe Bend Methodist Church.
Survivors include her beloved sister, Ethel Behm of North Dakota, and a brother, Clarence Marshall of North Dakota.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elvin; and two brothers -- Walter Marshall and Glenn Marshall.
The body will be cremated and no service is planned at this time. Arrangements were by Horseshoe Bend Memorial Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the North Arkansas Life Care Center or to Horseshoe Bend Methodist Church.
