Noland Gardner Cole, 91, of Rockford, Ill., formerly of Smithville, Ark., died Jan. 29, 2006, at the Swedish American Hospital.
He was born Oct. 14, 1914, in Smithville, the son of Henry and Mattie Maude Erwin Cole. He was united in marriage to Hazel Modell Geurin Cole on June 20, 1942, in Smithville.
He was a schoolteacher in Arkansas until 1950 and later retired from Sundstrand Aviation, where he worked as an inspector and sewing machine man. He was a member of the Temple Baptist Church in Rockford, Ill.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel Modell Cole of Rockford; and one son, Bruce Noland Cole of Tustin, Calif.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Flora Winters; and six brothers, his twin, Owand Cole, Eslie Cole, Elbridge (Sam) Cole, Albridge (Joe) Cole, Truman Cole and Kenneth Cole.
The funeral services were held Feb. 7 at Higginbotham Chapel in Walnut Ridge. Officiating was Rev. Charles Helms, with burial following in the New Hope Cemetery in Smithville.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Higgin-botham Funeral Service of Walnut Ridge.
Pallbearers were Charles W. Helms, Ryan Helms, Mark Davis, Jim Cole, N. Ray Campbell, Joe Helms and Rick Fuller.
