Preston Croom, 74, of Cave City died Feb. 22, 2005, at his home.
Born Sept. 2, 1930, at Strawberry, he was the son of Luther Horace and Dona Rebecca Harger Croom. He was a carpenter and owner of Hilltop Grocery for many years, a U.S. Air Force veteran, having served in the Korean Conflict, and a member of First Missionary Baptist Church in Cave City.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Lou Ella James Croom; a son, Greg Croom of Cave City; two daughters -- Pam Lester of Batesville, and Kerrie Brightwell of Cave City; three brothers -- Annie Laster of Batesville, Veronica Croom, Wade Brightwell and Micah Brightwell, all of Cave City; a stepgranddaughter, Crystal Cordell of Batesville; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers -- Lewis Croom, Johnny Croom and Buck Croom; and three sisters -- Freda Croom, Virginia Wright and Gertrude Norman.
The funeral was Feb. 25 at First Missionary Baptist Church in Cave City with Ron Canard officiating. Burial followed in Mt. View Cemetery east of Cave City with arrangements under the direction of Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.
Pallbearers were Charles Wilmuth, Dennis Smith, Jim Smith, Paul Wayne Johnson, Ed Milligan and Wendell Perkey.
Honorary pallbearers were Tom Foley, George Wright, Sonny Wilkes, Gene Smith and Jerry Reeves.
