Paul Gene Garland, of Salem, Ark., son of the late James and Orpha (Morgan) Garland, was born June 19, 1935, in Saline County, Ark. He died June 23, 2007, at his home near Salem, at the age of 72.
He was united in marriage to Mary Letta Taylor on Sept. 12, 1957, at Coloma, Mich., and to this union three children were born. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He worked as a propane deliveryman. He was a member of the Oxford Church of Christ where he served as an elder.He is survived by: his wife, Mary Garland of Salem; two sons, David Garland (Amanda) of Ash Flat, Ark., and Jason Garland of Cherokee Village, Ark.; a daughter, Letta Nehring (Jim) of Dixon, Ill.; seven grandchildren, Starr Lawyer, Samantha Garland, Devin Nehring, Lindsey Garland, Raymond Nehring, Nathan Garland and Amelia Garland; four brothers, William Garland of Deming, N.M., Thomas Garland of Sycamore, Ill., Roger Garland of Malta, Ill., and Douglas Garland of Higden, Ark.; two sisters, Barbara Chalk of Denard, Ark., and Karen Garland of Higden, Ark.He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Daniel Garland; and a sister, Betty Lawson.Funeral services were held June 25 at the Barker Funeral Home Chapel in Salem with Dale Godwin and Steve Esterbrook officiating. Interment followed in the Wiseman Cemetery at Wiseman, Ark., with arrangements under the direction of the Barker Funeral Home in Salem.Pallbearers were Dennis Taylor, Nick Blanton, Bill Hill, Brian Sanderson, Jim Bicker and Jeremy Bicker.Honorary pallbearers were Kenneth "Doc" Warden, Ronald Fippin, Rodney Barker, Gary Goodson, Harold Cotter, Joe Broughton, Kermit Oldfield, Howard Burris, Mary Burris, Mildred Albright and Amerigas employees.Memorials preferred to the Oxford Church of Christ.
