Staff Sgt. Raymond Thomas Porter, 31, of Fort Belvoir, Va., formerly of Hardy, died Jan. 16, 2002, at Fort Belvoir.
Born Jan. 26, 1970, in Pueblo, Colo., he was the son of Charles and Joyce Traw Porter. He was a graduate of Highland High School. He entered the military in 1989. He was a veteran of Desert Storm and was currently stationed at Fort Belvoir with the United States Army. He had been stationed at Fort Belvoir for the past five years coming from the 5th SF Group.
Survivors include his wife, Lesia Porter of Fort Belvoir; a son, Michael Porter of Fort Belvoir; his parents of Mammoth Spring; two brothers -- Bill Porter of Redondo Beach, Calif., and Lee Porter of Mansfield, Texas; four sisters -- Debbie Baldridge and Pamela Wiseman, both of The Colony, Texas, Patty Love of Searcy, and Penny Counts of Swifton; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Thelma Porter and Amos and Bertha Traw; and a niece, Christina Baldridge.
The funeral was Jan. 25 at Tri-County's Cherokee Chapel in Highland with military chaplain Major Gary Hensley officiating. Burial with full military honors was in the Perry Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of Tri-County's Cherokee Chapel of Highland.
