Paul Russell Nau, 92, of Topsham, Maine died Feb. 4, 2007, at Amenity Manor.
He was born in Burlington, Iowa on Sept. 29, 1914, a son of Russell W. Nau and Bessie (Headley) Nau.
He attended Burlington High School and graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in mechanical engineering.
He married Beatrice Louise Nau in Milwaukee, Wis. on May 28, 1949.
After a brief period during which he managed the family farm in Iowa, Nau went to work for Wisconsin Motors in Milwaukee. Later, he worked for Clinton Engines Corporation in Maquoketa, Iowa, and for Briggs and Stratton Corporation in Milwaukee. He specialized in the design of carburetion and fuel systems for air-cooled gasoline engines, and was the inventor of several patents. He retired with his wife to Cherokee Village.
Nau was a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers, the Danville Lodge, the Order of the Eastern Star, the Lions Club and the United Methodist Church. He enjoyed golf, was an avid investor, and throughout his life worked in partnership with his brother, Donald, to maintain operation of the family farm in Danville, Iowa.
He was predeceased by his wife, Beatrice, in June, 2006.
Surviving are: his son, Paul A. Nau, and daughter-in-law, Luanna Nau, of Brunswick, Maine; his brother, Donald G. Nau of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and his grandchildren, George and Charles Nau.
