Ruth Cain Bess, 76, of Blytheville, Ark., died July 29, 2006, at her home in Blytheville. Born to Charlie and Louise Nelson Cain in Osceola, Ark., she was a lifelong resident of the area, a member of the First Baptist Church and a retired comptroller of the Randall Company.
She was active in the church where she was a teacher of the 5-year-old Sunday School class for many years.
She was also past president of the Blytheville Professional Women's Club and an active volunteer with the American Cancer Society.
She also worked for many years as an American Red Cross volunteer at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Blytheville.
She enjoyed decorating her home, doing yard work for which she was recognized on three occasions with the Yard of the Month award.
She also enjoyed traveling with the Arkansas Northeastern College tours and spending time with her family at the lake. A devoted wife of 58 years, she was also a devoted mother and grandmother.
Her parents preceded her in death.
She is survived by her husband, Willard Bess of the home; children, Greg and JaNoel Bess of Hardy, Jeff and Stefani Bess of Longview, Texas; sisters, Opal Doyle of Gosnell, Ark., Ruby Cleveland of Blytheville, Stella Bohaning of Jacksonville, Fla.; grandchildren, Rebecca and Anthony Sutton of Silver Spring, Md., Lea Bess of Hardy, Jordan Bess of Longview, Texas, Shayne Wright of Longview, Texas; in-laws, Opal Lambert Atkinson of Jonesboro, J.A. and Rosalie Bess of Clay City, Ind., and Glenna and Charlie Enderson of Odessa, Texas.
The funeral services were held Aug. 2 at the Cobb Funeral Home with the Revs. David Ross and Greg Bowers officiating.
Burial followed in the Elmwood Cemetery. Arrangement were under the direction of the Cobb Funeral Home of Blytheville.
