Robert E. Pettengell, 88, of Cherokee Village died June 18, 2003, at Eastern Ozarks Regional Health System in Cherokee Village.
Born Nov. 30, 1914, in Grays Lake, Ill., he was the son of Charles Edward Pettengell and Hilda Marquardt Pettengell. He married Frances Peterson Oct. 9, 1943, in Yuma, Ariz.
He retired from the United States Army as a first lieutenant. He was at Pearl Harbor and served in Europe during World War II. He also served during the Korean War. He retired after 25 years in the Army and five years in the Reserves.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Cherokee Village.
Survivors include his wife, Frances, of the home; two sons -- Patrick Pettengell of North Little Rock and Michael Pettengell of Kansas City, Mo; a daughter, Ann Kelling of Selmer, Tenn.; and three granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a son, Robert Pettengell Jr.
A memorial mass will be announced later. Arrangements are under the direction of Tri-County's Cherokee Chapel of Highland.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Michael's Rosary Guild at St. Michael's Catholic Church.
