Roy Floyd Phelps of Salem, son of the late Farce Washington and Lydia Joann Murphy Phelps, was born on Aug. 20, 1926, in Heart, Ark. He died June 12, 2006, at Fulton County Hospital in Salem at the age of 79.
He was united in marriage to Betty Louise Meek on Oct. 9, 1951, at Visilia, Calif., and to this union one daughter was born. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Phelps was a manager of farm operations of a large farm in California. He was member of the Missouri Avenue and 6th Street Church of Christ in West Plains, Mo.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Phelps of Salem; one daughter, Teresa Mackey and husband David of Burbank, Calif, one brother, Willis Phelps and wife Glenda of Glencoe; five sisters, Oma Weaver of Salem, Bernice Keirn of Branson, Mo., Nova Jean Smith and husband Robert of Wichita, Kan., Berndean Treata of Wichita, and Ellis Faye Presley and husband Roy of Wichita; and many other relatives and friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Melvin Phelps.
The funeral services were held June 16 at the Barker Funeral Home Chapel in Salem with Bro. Larry Beavers officiating.
Pallbearers were Roy Coldiron, David Mackey, Kevin Mackey, Troy Presley, Rocky Keirn and Gary Martin. Interment was in the Agnos Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of the Barker Funeral Home of Salem.
