Rexene Haskins Estes, 89, of Ash Flat died March 31, 2007, in Horseshoe Bend.
She was born Nov. 1, 1917, in Ash Flat, Ark., the daughter of the late Jack Haskins and Ettie (Roberts) Haskins. She graduated from high school at the age of 16 from Ash Flat as an honor student and was a state spelling bee champion. She attended Arkansas College and graduated from Arkansas State University with a bachelor's of science degree in education. She started her teaching career in Sulphur Rock, then the Ash Flat School, and finally retired from the Highland School District. In addition to being a teacher, Mrs. Estes was a homemaker and wonderful wife and mother. She was a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include: one son, Tommy Estes of Ash Flat; two daughters, Charlotte and Jim Fowler of Myron, and Carolyn Estes of Ash Flat; six grandchildren, Karen Fowler, Julie Boles, Frank and wife, Ellie Fowler, Barry Fowler, Chad and wife, Amy Stewart and Stephanie Stewart; and four great-grandchildren, Kerry Boles, Amber Stewart, Madison Lovelace and Wyatt Fowler; four nieces; one nephew; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband of 66 years, Hayden in November of 2005; and two brothers, Dale and Bernard Haskins. Funeral services were held April 1 at the Ash Flat Church of Christ with Jack Richardson officiating. Burial followed in the Haskins Cemetery. Pallbearers were Frank Fowler, Barry Fowler, Kerry Boles, Jack Haskins, Clifton Roberts and Lindel Estes. Arrangements were under the direction of the Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City. The family requests that memorials be made to the charity of one's choice.
