Raphael Leon (Ray) Martin, 80, of Russellville died July 2, 2005 at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock.
He was born Jan. 5, 1925, in Ash Flat, son of Horace and Bessie Martin. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1948. In 1957, he began a 30-year career with the Arkansas Farm Bureau Insurance Companies, serving as agency manager in Pope County for 22 years before his retirement. He was a Chartered Life Underwriter and active in several professional organizations. A long-time member of the Russellville Lions Club, he actively served in many civic and charitable projects. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
He is survived by Lou Martin, his wife of 54 years; son Greg Martin and wife Paula of Pensacola, Florida; daughter Melinda Fink and husband Larry of Russellville; and three grandchildren, Sarah Fink of Russellville, Bradley Fink of New Braunfels, Texasm and Ethan Martin of Pensacola. He is also survived by a brother, Drexel Martin of Houston, Texas, and preceded in death by brother Donald Martin of Ash Flat.
Funeral services at First United Methodist Church in Russellville with Rev. David Scroggin officiating. Graveside service and burial followed at Wiles Cemetery in Ash Flat with Rev. Brien Nix Hall officiating. Arrangements were made by Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.
Pallbearers were Bradley Fink, Ethan Martin, Bill Martin, David Keener, Phil Bourne and Richard Pierce.
