Ronald P. Nelson, 71, of Warrensburg, Mo., formerly of Ash Flat, died Sept. 25, 2003, at the Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg.
He was born Jan. 18, 1932, in Marion, Ohio. He was married to Bonnie Horton on May 8, 1945, in Wichita, Kan., and worked for over 25 years in the claims department for Dorth Coombs Insurance in Wichita, Kan. He was active throughout the years in Boy Scouts, as a Special Olympics volunteer, and as a track and field official. He was of the Church of Christ belief.
Survivors include two sons -- Ronald Douglas Nelson of Gladstone, Mo., and Jimmie Dirk Nelson of Warrensburg, Mo.; one daughter, Carol J. Hernandez of Wichita, Kan.; three grandchildren -- Eric Michael Nelson, Philip Alexander Nelson and Emalee Joy Nelson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Bonnie, on Aug. 18, 1996.
The funeral was Sept. 28 at Tri-County's Cherokee Chapel with Jack Richardson officiating. Burial was in the Wiles Cemetery at Ash Flat with arrangements under the direction of Tri-County's Cherokee Chapel of Hardy.
