Sloan H. Wells, 79, of Cave City died April 30, 2006. He was born March 25, 1927, in Nelsonville, Ark., the son of the late Roe Wells and Lela Hutchison Wells. He was postmaster in Cave City for 23 years. He served in the Coast Guard during World War II.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Cave City. He was a Mason, Curia Lodge; a store owner for 20 years; a licensed funeral director at Roller-Crouch-McGee Funeral Home for 15 years; a volunteer fireman for 26 years; on the city council for 20 years, and on the Cave City School Board for eight years.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Douthitt Wells of Cave City; a son, Tom Wells of Clayton, N.C.; two daughters, Ann James of Cave City and Susan Brown of Mountain View; three grandchildren, Laura Childers, Aaron James and Joshua Wells; three great-grandchildren Cheyenne Childers, Cody Childers and Allie James.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Conway "Shot" Wells; and a sister, Pauline Arnn.
The funeral service was held May 3 at First Baptist Church of Cave City with Bro. Ron Canard officiating. Burial followed in the Cave City Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Roller-Crouch-McGee Funeral Home of Cave City.
Pallbeares were Aaron James, Mark Childers, Ben Brown, Paul Wayne Johnson, Tom Penn, Charles Hutchison.
