Roy Thomas Sims, 71, of Mammoth Spring, died Nov. 25, 2001, at St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro.
Born Jan. 24, 1930, in Wardell, Mo., he was the son of George and Mary Eva Fourthman Sims. He married to Lillian Savage on Sept. 4, 1948, in Piggott.
While living in Wardell he owned a service station and a grocery store. He also served as the local fire chief. He moved with his family to the Sharp County area in 1966 from Wardell. He worked many years as a self-employed contractor and also was a car dealer.
He attended services at the Christian Tabernacle near Hardy, where he served as a trustee and then as a deacon for many years.
Survivors include his wife; a son and daughter-in-law -- Roy D. and Caroline Sims of West Plains, Mo.; four daughters and sons-in-law -- Gletta and Ron Clark of Thayer, Mo., Hope and Danny Seibert of Mammoth Spring, Pamela and Darrel Wade of Thayer, Mo., and Angela and Brent Godwin of Mammoth Spring; four brothers -- Harold Sims and James Sims, both of Ash Flat, and Charles Sims and George Sims, both of Mammoth Spring; a sister, Myrtle Defoe of Ash Flat; 18 grandchildren and their spouses -- Anthony and Joanna Clark, Stephen and Melissa Clark, Natalie and Michael Appelt, Michal and Randy McComas, Michael and LaNae Seibert, Melissa Champion, Mitchell Seibert, Jeremy and Jody Wade, Richard and Kristi Wade, Kim and Johnny Alexander, Ben and Robyn Sims, Anita and David James, Pam and Cody Garner, Tommy and Cindy Sims, Jessica and Richard Rudd, Damon and Jacque Bowling, Tiffany and Michael Presley, and Corey Godwin; 23 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
The funeral was Nov. 28 at the Christian Tabernacle on Highway 175 near Hardy with the Rev. Herb Seibert officiating. Burial followed in Eagle's Rest Cemetery at the church.
Arrangements were under the direction of Tri-County's Cherokee Chapel of Highland.
Pallbearers were Anthony Clark, Stephen Clark, Michael Seibert, Mitchell Seibert, Jeremy Wade, Richard Wade, Ben Sims, Tommy Sims and Corey Godwin.
