Helen Mithilda Strater, 90, of Hardy died Aug. 10, 2002, at Eaglecrest Nursing Home in Ash Flat. She was born Feb. 5, 1912, in Wynne, Ark. She was the daughter of Gus Henry Spilley and Ida Frieda Straub Spilley. She retired as a certified nurses aide from Baptist Memorial Hospital in Cherokee Village. She was a member of the Highland Lioness Club for many years and also the American Legion Auxiliary. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law -- Betty and Don Leavelle of rural Sharp County, Rosina L. Hammond of Knoxville, Tenn., and Charlotte and Fred Goodwin of Ash Flat; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, William Perkins; one daughter, Barbara A. Alex-ander; one grandson, Harvey R. Alexander; three great-grandchildren; two brothers and two sisters.
Services were Aug. 15 at Spring River Baptist Church with Rev. Floyd Rikard officiating. Burial was in the Bronaugh Cemetery near the church with arrangements under the direction of Tri-County's Cherokee Chapel of Highland.
