Truman C. Benton of Salem, son of the late John Allen and Ona Jane (Butts) Benton, was born Oct. 4, 1913, in Frenchtown, Ark. He died Sept. 28, 2006, at the Fulton County Hospital in Salem at the age of 92.
Benton married Oval Hall on Aug. 25, 1931, at Salem. He was a farmer, carpenter and owner of a leather and shoe repair shop. He was a member of the Salem Church of Christ.
Survivors are: a daughter, Christine Grissom and husband Travis of Ash Flat; two brothers, Carroll Benton of Glencoe, and Ford Benton and wife Betty of Glencoe; a sister, Earlene Zeigler of Glencoe; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; daughter, Katherine Wilkening; two brothers, Cecil Benton and Orgus Benton; three sisters, Ruby Langston, Burnice Romine and Retha Benton; and two sons-in-law.
The funeral service was held Sept. 30 at the Barker Funeral Home Chapel in Salem, with Bro. Mike Yates officiating. Interment followed in the Salem Cemetery under the direction of Barker Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were James Grissom, Roy Grissom, T.J. Grissom, Cody Jackson, Randy Zeigler and Ronnie Romine.
