Virgil Edward Kent, 80, of Cherokee Village died Feb. 25, 2006, at his home.
He was born Aug. 2, 1925, in Marion, Ill., the son of Roland Kent and Eva Watson Kent.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II.
He was retired from General Motors. He was of the Baptist faith and was a member of the local American Legion Post 346.
Survivors include his wife, Clorice Thweatt Kent of the home; one son, Marvin E. Kent of Mountain Home; one daughter, Patricia J. Miller of Indianapolis, Ind.; one sister, Cecile Eaton of Cutler, Ill.; five grandchildren, Michael, Katherine and Matthew Miller, Mercedes Kent and Crystal Deems; and two sons by a previous marriage, Danny B. Kent and Roland E. Kent.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Gladys Kent; and one brother, Bill Kent.
Graveside services with military honors were held March 3 at the Maplewood Cemetery in Marion, Ill..
Arrangements were by the Michell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion.
Local arrangements were under the direction of Tri-County's Cherokee Chapel of Hardy.
Pallbearers were Eddie Barwick, Jason Barwick, Scott Sprague, Michael Miller, Matthew Miller and Jake Whitt.
