Vernon Tyree, 87, died April 24 in Horseshoe Bend. He was born March 5, 1920 in Pueblo, Colo.
Vernon married Dee Doss on Dec. 7, 1997. He leaves three step-children; nine step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandson. Several nieces and nephews and many friends. He served in the Army Air Force in World War II. When he was discharged in Nov. 1945, he moved to California. where he was in management in the grocery business. In 1965, he started working for the University of California, Berkeley campus and retired in 1965. He moved to Cherokee Village in 1992. Vernon was a former governor of the Moose in Richmond, Calif. in the 1960's. He was founder and first president of Cherokee Village Historical Society. He is a member of the Cherokee Village United Methodist Church and the Highland VFW post 4772. He has one son Richard of Hardy and Linda Chambers daughter in law to be; two granddaughters; three great grandchildren; three sisters, Helen Carter of Loomis, Calif.; Dorothy Martin of Meadow Vista, Calif.; Barbara Stout of Denver, Colo.; two brothers, Bill Tyree of Mountain Home, Ark.; and Earnie Tyree of Oak Run, Calif. Memorial services were held at Cherokee Village Methodist Church April 27 with Mark Doss officiating.
