Vera Lorea Caruthers Ward, 86, of Salem died April 25, 2003, at Salem.
Born March 7, 1917, at Oxford, she was the daughter of David Lee and Addie Lou Carter Caruthers.
She married T.C. Ward on Oct. 28, 1939, at Oxford, and to this union four children were born. She spent her working years as a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a homemaker. One of her favorite pastimes was spending time with her husband on the many trail rides they went on during the years. She was a member of Wiseman Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Donald Ward and his wife, Joyce, of Salem; three daughters -- Barbara Jennings and her husband, David, of Ash Flat, Judy Oliver and her husband, Mickey, of Salem, and Lenisa Branscum and her husband, Gary, of Salem; a sister, Roselene Cantrell of Oxford; eight grandsons; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, T.C.; her parents; three brothers -- Roy, Troy and Juel; and six sisters -- Lola Turner, Nola Bell Smith, Tressie Bell, Effie Ward, Stella Merrell and Gertrude Keylon.
The funeral was April 27 at Barker Funeral Home Chapel in Salem with Alan Winberry and Casey Oliver officiating. Interment was in Salem Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of Barker Funeral Home of Salem.
Pallbearers were Lanny Ward, Kyle Ward, Brett Jennings, Chris Jennings, Casey Oliver, Jason Oliver, Justin Branscum and Zach Branscum.
Honorary pallbearers were Irene Short, Patsy Carroll, Debi Sutherland, Nola Barker, Rhonda Koelling, Geraldine Bishop, Lorene Henry, Louise Humphries, Betty Whitaker and Lea Mosey.
Memorials are preferred to the Fulton County Hospital to buy chairs for the South Wing waiting room.
