Walter Beryl "Buck" Lucas, 81, of Cherokee Village died May 6, 2004, at White River Medical Center in Batesville.
Born Aug. 24, 1922, in Grand Tower, Ill., he was the son of Mollie Shaffer and Walter B. Lucas Sr.
He was retired from The San Diego Tribune after working over 25 years. He served in the Navy during World War II and was a member of the Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Lucas of Cherokee Village; two sons -- Bradley Lucas of Savannah, Ga., and Daniel Lucas of Las Vegas; three grandchildren -- Kurt Lucas, Sara Elizabeth Lucas and Jonathan Allen Lucas; and a sister, Daisey Havens of St. Paul, Minn.
The funeral was May 10 at Heath Oak Hill Chapel with the Rev. Vern Forsberg officiating. Burial was at sea from San Diego.
Arrangements were by Heath Funeral Home of Hardy.
