William E. Cowden, 79, of Alton, formerly of Hardy, died Feb. 2, 2007, at the Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home.
He was born on May 4, 1927, in Gillespie, Ill., the son of John and Mary (Hanley) Cowden.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy. He worked many years in the trucking industry and in construction. He moved to Hardy in 1976, and lived there until moving to Alton three years ago. He attended services at the Shekinah Tabernacle in Wirth, Ark.
He is survived by his wife, Tenia Cowden of the home; one son, Johnny Cowden of Mundelein, Ill.; and a sister, Margaret "Peg" LaRose of Island Lake, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and three sisters.
The funeral services were held Feb. 6 at the Christian Tabernacle with Rev. Martin D. McComas officiating. Burial followed in the Eagles Rest Cemetery at the church.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Tri-County Funeral Home of Highland.
