Wallace J. Stanley, 85, of Gilmer, Texas, died Feb. 21, 2005. He was the father of the the Rev. Jack Stanley of Highland, and grandfather of the Rev. Mike Stanley, pastor of the Friendship Baptist Church of Highland.
Born in Pritchett, Texas, Dec. 8, 1919, Stanley was the son of Jack and Willie Stanley.
He had worked in his early years for the Cotton Belt Railroad. He had also operated dairy farms in the East Texas area and was a livestock trader until poor health stopped him from working.
He was also an Army veteran, having served during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Lynn of the home; a son, the Rev. Jack Stanley of Highland; four daughters -- Lana Wimberly of Whitehouse, Texas, Patricia Tuttle of Rogers, Texas, Mary Ray of Cisco, Texas, and Margaret Lane of Gilmer, Texas; three brothers -- A.C. Stanley of Owensboro, Ky., Leo Ray Stanley of Kirbyville, Texas, Roy Stanley of Tyler, Texas; two sisters -- Ila Fay Berry of Walnut Creek, Calif., and Alice Ruth Badsgard of Whittier, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his oldest brother, Charley Stanley.
The funeral was Feb. 21 at Oak Hill Baptist Church in Bettie, Texas, with interment in the Oak Hill Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Grubbs-Loyd Funeral Home of Gilmer.
