William Murrey, 82, of Williford died Sept. 1, 2005, at his home. He was born Sept. 14, 1923, in Hardy, the son of Daniel Boone and Laura Dotson Murrey.
He was united in marriage Nov. 7, 1983, to Frances Payne. He worked for Ozark Acres on the road crew, was a farmer and a veteran of World War II having served in the Navy as a first class seaman and was a member of the Golden Dragons in service for sailing around the world. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Murrey of the home; one son, Hollis Long of Batesville, Miss.; three daughters -- Hazel McIlvoy and Diane Cossey, both of Williford, and Marti Wesson of Gurdon, Ark.; one brother; George Murrey of Lamar, Mo.; 17 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Marilyn Moore and Wilma House.
The funeral service was Sept. 4 at Higginbotham Chapel in Hardy with Sonny Malson officiating. Burial followed at Williford Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Service.
Pallbearers were Robert McKnight, Dale McIlvoy, Christopher Bodkins, Jody Sanders, Chuck Roach and David Roach.
Honorary pallbearers were Carroll Moore and Jimmy Moore.
The family requests that donations be made in memory of William Murrey to the Gideon's Bible society.
