William "Matt" Varner, 98, of Cave City died Oct. 3, 2006, at the Cave City Nursing Home. He was born May 23, 1908, at Denver, Ark., to James Marshall and Susie Belle (Boyd) Varner.
He was a retired farmer and a member of the First Church UPC in Batesville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruby Leona Varner; one infant son, Boyd Varner; one brother, Ardle Varner; two sisters, Axie Goings and Wilma Dierking; one grandson, Don R. Porter; one granddaughter, Dayna Porter; and one great-grandson, Brett Porter.
Survivors include one son, Conley Varner of Cave City; three daughters, Helen Porter and Geraldine Tyson, both of Cave City, and Bonnie Markhum of Bakersfield, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Oct. 6 at the Qualls Funeral Home Chapel at Cave City. Burial followed in the Mt. View Cemetery located east of Cave City, with arrangements by Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.
