Billy Joe Yancey, 68, of Violet Hill died Jan. 23, 2002.
Born June 29, 1933, in Brockwell, he was the son of Eldon and Epper Dockins Yancey. He married Carol Jean Tate April 25, 1953, in Calico Rock.
During his working years, he was self-employed as a farmer and carpenter. He also served in the U.S. Army. He was a deacon at Highland First Assembly of God Church in Highland.
Survivors include his wife and companion of 48 years, Carol Yancey; three sons -- Donnie Joe Yancey of Violet Hill, Stevie Gene Yancey of Jonesboro, Ind., and Terry Lynn Yancey of Wichita, Kan.; seven grandchildren -- Joshua Yancey, Lindsey Yancey, Kara Yancey, Dawnyel Davis-Bissing, Jeremiah Yancey, Jerod Yancey and Lacey Yancey; two great-grandchildren -- Jacob Henry Davis-Bissing, and Noah Philip Yancey; and two sisters -- Bertha Mae Billingsley of Violet Hill, and Georgia Gaye Ramsey of Shawnee, Kan.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The funeral was Jan. 29 at Roman and Bill Howard Memorial Chapel in Melbourne with Tim Turner officiating. Burial followed in Violet Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were were Rich-ard Hennessey, Clint Wiles, Charles Wiles, Dennis Sublett, Nathan Hubbard and Jessie Smith.
Honorary pallbearers were Dwight Hickman, Glenn Broyles, Paul Kitch, Mark Alexander and Bill Sartin.
Memorials can be made to the Highland First Assembly of God Scholarship Fund for ministerial students.
Arrangements were under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home of Melbourne.
