THAYER -- On May 23 members of the American Legion Post 344 will place small American flags along the entrance of Thayer Cemetery.

Area residents are invited to take a flag and place it on a veterans grave site.

On May 24, at 11 a.m., the post will conduct a Memorial Day presentation at the cemetery.

According to American Legion Post 344 member Doyle Fink, the colors will be posted and bagpipe player Ken Bristow will open the ceremony. Megan Underwood will sing the National Anthem.

"Commander Earl Dodge will request the Post Chaplin, Bill Pace, to offer a prayer followed by the Pledge of Allegiance," Fink said

Commander Dodge will present a short talk about Memorial Day and veterans. Thayer Mayor Merle Williams will present a proclamation.

Fink said Commander Dodge will call the Honor Guards from the Thayer American Legion and the Mammoth Spring VFW Post 7831 to attention and present a 21 Gun Salute followed by "Taps."

Fink said bagpiper Bristow will close the ceremony by playing "Amazing Grace."

He said everyone is invited to attend to give deserved honor and respect to veterans.
