Gene Dan Maguffee, 65, of Salem, Ark., son of the late Luther Obed and Beulah Edith (Kersey) Maguffee, was born on Sept. 18, 1942, at Salem, Ark., He died May 10, 2008, at the Fulton County Hospital in Salem, Ark.
He was united in marriage to Danna Sharon Sanders on July 10, 1970, at Salem, Ark.
He served as Fulton County Clerk for 32 years.
He served his country in the U.S. Amy during the Vietnam War. Gene was a member of the VFW Post 9777 in Salem, served as Quarter Master of the VFW Post 9777 for 34 years and State Quarter Master for two years, and was treasurer of the Fulton County Democratic Party. He was a member of the Salem First Baptist Church.
He leaves to mourn his passing: his wife Sharon Maguffee of Salem; two daughters, Dana Gene Shwwbuirt, of Texarkana, Ark., and Whitney Lyn Maguffee of Salem; a twin sister, Joyce Burke and husband Larry of Gassville, Ark.; two grandchildren, David James and Erica Lynn Shewbuirt; nephews and niece, Bob and Marvin Maguffee, Steve and Ron Burk and Marsha Loftin; a sister-in-law, Leota Maguffee of Salem; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by: his parents and a brother, Marshall Dale Maguffee.
Funeral services were held May 13 at the Barker Funeral Home Chapel in Salem with Bro. John Hodges officiating. Interment followed in the Salem Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Barker Funeral Home of Salem.
Pallbearers were Bob Maguffee, Marvin Maguffee, Lonnie Turner, Larry Turner Bobby Dean York and Dorwood Crouch.
Honorary pallbearers were Judge John Harkey, Judge Dan Kemp, Gray Dellinger, Max Tomlinson, Larry Kissee, Larry Burk, Bob York, Dr. David Kauffman and Jim Short.
