Cougar shooters ready for regional

Wednesday, May 21, 2008

Izard County High School's shooting sports team is gearing up for the regional tournament to be held at the Remington Gun Club in Lonoke on May 31. ICC has both junior and senior high teams that will compete at Lonoke. In fact, ICC has five squads of five players each that will compete in the senior high division and one squad of five players who will compete in the junior high division. The goal is to place high enough to qualify for the state tournament in Lonoke on June 7.

The AGFC provided ICC with a grant to purchase equipment and supplies.

Wayne Neal, the ICC coach said, "The students are very enthusiastic and the parent and school support of this program has been exceptional."

The AGFC promotes gun safety through this program and sees this as an opportunity to engage students in competition with other students. The ICC team has held eight team practices and had a team competition with Viola at Mountain Home recently to prepare for the regional tournament.
