Joseph Harold Grass Jr. of Camp, son of the late Joseph Harold and Ibbie (Perkins) Grass, was born Nov. 22, 1931, in New Orleans, La. He departed this life Aug. 16, 2004, at Camp at the age of 72.
Grass was united in marriage to Lillian Messenger on Aug. 15, 1944, in New Orleans. He served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard during the Korean War.
He was an officer for the New Orleans Police Department.
He was a member of Immanual Southern Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian of Camp; three sons -- Robert Grass of Salem, Larry Grass of Glencoe, and Tim Grass of Kansas City, Mo.; three daughters -- Debbie Spears of Houston, Texas, Carol Perkins of Salem, and Patty Harris of Lousiville, Ky., two sisters, Marie Buras of Baton Rouge, La., and Barbara Nuss of Metarie, La.; 21 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The memorial service was held Aug. 18 at Immanuel Southern Baptist Church in Salem with Bro. Alan Winberry officiating.
Arrangements were by Barker Funeral Home of Salem.
