MAMMOTH SPRING -- Mammoth Spring Police Chief Michael Davis and officer Jamie Turnbough got some exercise last week when a routine traffic stop turned into a chase in downtown Mammoth Spring.
Davis was patrolling in the alley behind Main Street when he noticed a vehicle driven by a suspect wanted in the shooting the Simmons 1st Bank sign on Main Street.
When officer Davis tried to stop the vehicle, William M. Tibbits, 19, of Mammoth Spring fled from the vehicle running through the alley, around the town and into Fred's Fish House, also on Main Street.
Both officers followed Tibbits into the restaurant where he was arrested without incident.
Turnbough said Tibbits was wanted on a felony warrant from Louisiana for 21 counts of breaking and entering and probation violation.
The Mammoth Spring officers charged him with resisting arrest, fleeing and disorderly conduct. He was charged with criminal mischief, a class C felony, for the sign shooting incident.
Tibbits was taken to the Fulton County jail at Salem where he remains.
