Owen Ray Barker, son of the late Connie Barker and Elsie A. Manry Barker, was born Dec. 18, 1924, in Mammoth Spring, Ark., and died Feb. 24, 2004, in West Plains, Mo., at the age of 79 years.
He was united in marriage Sept. 20, 1947, in Mammoth Spring, Ark., to Ruby Taylor.
He was a barber in Thayer before moving to Fulton, Mo., where he was an electrical foreman for Fulton State Hospital, retiring after 18 years of service. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during World War II in the South Pacific, the Phillipines and the occupation of Japan. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Mammoth Spring, Ark.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby, of the home in Mammoth Spring; two grandchildren -- Shelly Marie Justus and husband, Steve, of Mammoth Spring, and Ray Barker and his wife, Missy, of Salem, Ark.; two great-grandchildren -- Catherine Justus and Kayla Barker; a daughter-in-law, hazel Barker of Eloy, Ariz.; two step-grandchildren -- Donna Ratliff of Eloy, Ariz., and Cindy Cornwell of Casa Grande, Ariz.; a sister-in-law, Betty Griffith and husband Bob of Thayer, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Danny Barker; a sister, Louise Barker; and an infant brother.
The funeral was Feb. 27 at Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer with Ted Clarke officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery at Mammoth Spring, Ark., with arrangements under the direction of Carter Funeral Home Inc. of Thayer.
Military honors were presented by Langston, Vincent, Lunn VFW Post 7831 of Mammoth Spring.
Pallbearers were Steve Atkins, Ed Washam, J.C. Caldwell, Harold Jackson, Steve Simers and Don Case.
