Rudolph Jonathan "Doc" Shrable, 83, son of the late Ralph Emerson and Lillie LeAnn Worsham Shrable, was born Aug. 30, 1920, in Vidette, Ark. He died March 5, 2004, at Fulton County Hospital in Salem, Ark.
He married Erceil Madge Phillips Oct. 24, 1941.
To this union four sons were born. He was an Army Veteran of World War II.
He retired from the Arkansas Highway Department with 30 years of service as a ferry boat pilot. He was a cattle farmer all his life, a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and a lifelong resident of Viola. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Erceil; sons -- Doyle (Judy) Shrable and Pascal (Ruth) Shrable all of Viola; three grandchildren -- Boyd (Kerri) Shrable of Viola, Justin Shrable and fiance Jenny Webster and Brandi Shrable, all of Jonesboro; three great-grandchildren -- Jordyn, Dalton and Jagger Shrable all of Viola; six sisters -- Hasseltine Pendegrass, Lucille Boles, Lessie Jean (Bill) Clay, Betty (Winston) Kerley, Joyce (Leon) Hodges and Jodie (Ronnie) Sutherland; and one brother, Curtis Shrable.
He was preceded in death by two sons -- Boyd Dean Shrable and Gordon R. Shrable; two sisters -- Lorene Rudrauff and Audine Rowlett; two brothers -- Judge and Lehman Shrable and his parents.
The service was March 7 at Viola Baptist Church with Robert Lash and John Hodges officiating. Burial was in Flora Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Cox-Blevins Funeral Home of Salem.
