Vella Faye Smith

Vella Faye Tate Smith, daughter of the late Burton Michael and Gertie O'Neal Tate, was born on April 5, 1926, in Lunenburg, Ark. She died March 5, 2004, in Joplin, Mo., at the age of 77 years and 11 months.

She married Revel Smith in 1944, and to this union a son was born.

Faye spent her working years as a beautician and cosmetologist. In the 1960s she owned and operated a beauty school in Wenatchee, Wash., She was a long time member of the Wenatchee American Legion and the Washington State Cosmetologist Association. She was of the Baptist faith.

Surivors include a son and dauhterin-law -- Michael and Stephanie Smith of Joplin, Mo.; her husband, Reval Smith of Joplin, Mo.; two brothers -- Rex Tate and Vance Tate, both of Melbourne; two sisters -- Madge Tate Stephens of Melbourne and Diane Tate Kent of Springfield, Mo.; three grandchildren -- Todd Smith of Seattle, Wash., Michael Isaac Smith of Red Lodge, Mont., and Sheri Smith of Wenatchee, Wash.; two great-grandchildren -- Jamie and Brandon (unknown) of Wenatchee, Wash; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A graveside memorial service was held March 8 at Lunenburg Cemetery with Loye Vern Mason officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home of Melbourne, Ark.

Honorary pallbearers were Steve Evans, Ronnie Vines, Keith Lawrence, Mike Connor, Van Tate, Scott McCallister and Eddie Howard.
