Red Cross slates blood drives in Fulton, Sharp counties

Each day, the American Red Cross must receive between 500 and 530 whole blood donations to supply the nearly 70 hospitals it serves in Arkansas, western Tennessee and southwest Missouri. People are being asked to give the gift of life by donating at the following American Red Cross blood drives:

Fulton County

Aug. 18: Fulton County Hospital in Salem from 1 to 6 p.m.

Aug. 19: Bank of Salem, 207 W. Church Street in Salem from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Sharp County

Aug. 13: Ash Flat Wal-Mart Supercenter on Highway 62/412 from 1 to 6 p.m.

Aug. 14: Ash Flat Wal-Mart Supercenter on Highway 62/412 from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Aug. 15: Ash Flat Wal-Mart Supercenter on Highway 62/412 from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Aug. 26: Cave City High School from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

To donate one must be at least 17 years of age, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds, be in general good health, and not have taken aspirin within 48 hours prior to the time of donation. For a successful blood donation, donors are asked to:

* Get a good night's sleep.

* Eat a healthy breakfast or lunch.

* Drink plenty of fluids (preferably water) several hours before you donate blood.

An American Red Cross insulated lunch cooler and refreshments will be provided at the drive.
