Raymond Henry Atkinson, 81, of Ash Flat, Ark., died Aug. 24, 2004, at Eastern Ozarks Regional Health System in Cherokee Village.
Born Dec. 1, 1922, in Poughkeepsie, Ark., he was the son of William Elijah Atkinson and Lee Bacon Atkinson.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during World War II. He worked many years as a truck driver for Smith & Loveless Trucking in Lenexa, Kan., before retiring and moving back to Arkansas 15 years ago from Kansas City, Mo. He was a member of Ash Flat Church of Christ.
Survivors include two sons -- Raymond G. Atkinson of Independence, Mo., and Richard L. Atkinson and wife, Joanne, of Archie, Mo.; five grandchildren -- Molly Ann Gibson, Brian T. Atkinson, Jenn Hess, Rikki Jo :Atkinson and Alex W. Atkinson; two great-grandchildren -- Blake Tyler Atkinson and Jacob Michael Gibson; a nephew, Billy Neal Atkinson of Noblesville, Ind.; a cousin, Opal Garner of Jonesboro; and a special friend, Martha Yates of Hardy, Ark.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother and two sisters.
The funeral service was Aug. 26 at the Ash Flat Church of Christ with Keith Gregson officiating.
Burial followed in Wiles Cemetery at Ash Flat, with arrangements under the direction of Tri-County's Cherokee Chapel of Highland, Ark.
