50-50 PARTNERSHIP: The city of Salem and Salem Chamber of Commerce plan to purchase land and a house near the city park to be used as a tourist information center.
A joint 50-50 land partnership between the Salem Chamber of Commerce and the city of Salem is nearly a reality. The real estate closing is scheduled for Feb. 8, Hans Oliver, president of the chamber, announced at the chamber meeting Jan. 23.

The $48,000 deal includes a house with about 1,100 square feet sitting on one-half acre of land located across from the city park.

According to Oliver, the chamber hopes to make use of the house by revamping it as a tourist information center. The building will be used to promote business in Salem.

Oliver said the chamber will look for volunteers to man the center for chamber activities and to distribute literature and brochures on the area.

He added that he thinks it will be a benefit not only to the community but for businesses.
