"Being here, I enjoy working with people from town," she said.
In March, Bassham was hired to replace former Fulton County Librarian Sharon Carter. She began training March 19 and officially took over the position April 2.
Bassham left South Carolina and moved to Moko with her husband, Forest Bassham, about two years ago, she said.
Though she has never been employed as a librarian, Bassham said she feels confident about her new position.
She has worked with a variety of middle and high school-aged students throughout the 20 years she worked as a teacher. "When I moved I was working as a teacher with at risk kids at a maximum security juvenile facility," she said.
Bassham said though her first few weeks in the position have passed without any major problems, she's still learning the ropes. "I'm just concentrating on remembering everything; like anything else, there's always a lot to learn," Bassham said.
All Fulton County residents are encouraged to stop by the library, browse the selections and visit, she said.
Bassham also said the library is currently accepting book donations for their Memorial Day book sale on May 26.
