Leighton "Bud" Steffen, 82, of Cherokee Village passed away Sept. 14, 2004, at the Eastern Ozarks Regional Health System in Cherokee Village.
Steffen was born Jan. 16, 1922, in Carlyle, Ill., the son of Walter Steffen and Susan McQuaid Steffen. He worked as a sales representative for many years for MFA and American Salt. He moved to the Cherokee Village area four years ago from Jefferson City, Mo. He was of the Catholic faith and attended St. Michael's Catholic Church in Cherokee Village.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law -- Pat and David Nanneman of Willow Springs, Mo.; one sister Verla Heinzmann of New Baden, Ill.; two grandsons -- Mark and Andy Nanneman; and a special friend, Jackie Freeman of Cherokee Village.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Elsie Steffen in 1993; and one sister, Lorene Freidrich.
Funeral mass was held Sept. 17 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Cherokee Village with Father Kevin Atunzu officiating. Burial followed in the Resurrection Cemetery in New Baden, Ill., Sept. 18. Arrangements were under the direction of Tri-County's Cherokee Chapel of Highland.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
