Dan Riley Hackett Jr., 89, of Thayer, Mo., died July 23, 2004, at Shady Oaks Health Care in Thayer, Mo.
Born June 1, 1915, he was the son of Dan Riley Hackett Sr., and Nora Essary Hackett.
He was married on March 3, 1940, to Maxine Tucker in West Plains, Mo.
He was retired from the Burlington Northern Railroad after 42 years of service. He was in business with his son-in-law, Lloyd Best, at Best Shoe Store for 10 years. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Thayer for 72 years, serving as trustee and Deacon and had taught the Men's Sunday School Class for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Maxine of the home in Thayer, Mo.; two daughters -- Katherine Best and husband, Lloyd, of Thayer and Jane Romines and husband, Kenneth, of St. Louis, Mo.; five grandchildren -- Margaret Best Simer and husband, Danny, of Mountain Home, Ark., Suzanne Best Langley and husband, Dr. Greg Langley of Thayer, Elizabeth Romines of St. Louis, Mo., Katherine Romines Littleton and husband, Geoffrey of St. Louis, and Emily Romines of St. Louis, Mo.; and five great-grandchildren -- Jessica Langley of Thayer, Samuel Simer of Mountain Home, Madelaine and Gillian Littleton of St. Louis and Riley Mullgardt of St. Louis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one great-grandson, Tyler Simer and his sister, Jessie Lee Phillips.
The funeral service was held July 26 at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer with Dr. George Miller officiating.
Burial was in the Thayer Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Carter Funeral Home Inc. of Thayer, Mo..
