The body of an Evening Shade man was found Dec. 4 in a creek near his home.
Dale Spurlock, 43, was found floating in the waters of Piney Creek near the Highway 167 bridge.
"There are no obvious signs of injury or trauma," said Sharp County Investigator Det. Sgt. David Huffmaster.
Police were notified of the incident when a passing motorist noticed Spurlock and called 9-1-1 around 5:30 p.m. Thursday. Upon arriving on the scene, police placed crime scene tape from both sides of the bridge to the banks of the creek and began to gather evidence. Investigators collected statements the next day and the tape was removed that afternoon.
"He was in the water and they moved him down (on the bank) and that's about all we know right now," Deputy Sgt. Stanley Haney said.
Spurlock's body was sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab. Results are expected in the coming weeks.
"It's just an open homicide investigation right now," said Mack Thompson, Arkansas State Police special agent, who is aiding in the investigation.
Police did not say if Spurlock had been reported missing.
